The ISU Meat Lab is a federally inspected facility with the capability for harvesting and complete processing of meat animals and poultry. It has a full complement of sausage-making equipment, mostly of small commercial production size. In addition, there are two chemistry laboratories for analysis of a wide range of physical and chemical properties of meat. Facilities for more intensive biochemical, sensory, color, and textural properties of meat and meat products are available in nearby locations. One lecture classroom and one demonstration-lecture classroom is located in the Meat Lab. In addition, there is a public retail sales outlet for distribution of products produced in the course of demonstrations and/or research activities. The retail meat sales outlet is open Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The sales outlet is located at the north end of the Kildee/Meat Lab Atrium.For questions concerning the ISU Meat Lab, please phone 515-294-1187.
